How to Play Quota (Chicago) Golf Game

Rules, Stableford scoring, point quotas, and handicap adjustments.

Quota (also known as the Chicago scoring system or Point Quota) is a highly structured, individual golf game. Instead of matching stroke counts against other players directly, golfers compete against a custom point target—their **quota**—which is derived directly from their course handicap. This allows players of completely different skill levels to compete on a perfectly level playing field without modifying individual hole scores.

Calculating Your Starting Quota

In Quota, your target points are determined before the round begins. The standard formula is based on a baseline of 36 points for an 18-hole round (which equates to carding 18 pars at 2 points each):

Settle the Card calculates this target automatically based on the course handicaps defined on the Setup tab, and also allows you to manually customize starting quotas if your group uses a custom local baseline.

Earning Stableford Points

During the round, players earn points on each hole based on their **gross score** (or net score, if playing a net-quota variant, though gross is standard). Point values are awarded according to a modified Stableford scale:

Hole Score (Relative to Par) Stableford Points Earned Example on a Par 4
Albatross / Double Eagle (-3) 10 points Gross 1
Eagle (-2) 8 points Gross 2
Birdie (-1) 4 points Gross 3
Par (E) 2 points Gross 4
Bogey (+1) 1 point Gross 5
Double Bogey or worse (+2 or more) 0 points Gross 6 or more

Determining Standings and Payouts

The goal is to accumulate more points than your starting quota. At the end of the round, each player's cumulative Stableford points are compared against their quota to calculate their **Net Difference**.

For example:

In Settle the Card, the final standings and ledger payouts are calculated by comparing each player's Net Difference against the **group's average net difference** (which is 0.00 points relative to wagers). Players who finish above the average win wagers from players who finish below the average, ensuring the ledger balances perfectly.
